Hanky Pankys

This is one of my absolute Fall must-haves. So great when watching a football game! Here you go:

  • 2 pounds sausage. (I like Bob Evans sausage. Two tubes. I usually get one spicy and one regular.)
  • 1 pound Velveeta cheese
  • 1 Tbsp. ketchup
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 package party Rye breads - the little ones

Brown/cook sausage in a pan on the stove. In the microwave, in a large bowl, melt the Velveeta completely. Then mix in the other ingredients. When sausage is browned, drain and stir into cheese mixture. Lay breads on an ungreased cookie sheet. Spoon the mixture onto bread. Usually a heaping tablespoon is a good amount. When all the breads have been covered, place into 350 degree oven for about 10-13 minutes, or until the edges start to brown a little bit. Keep your eye on them, you don't want the breads to get too toasty. Voila! Enjoy with a nice beer, it really helps counter the spicyness.

These are also great for freezing. When I freeze them, I put the sausage/cheese mixture on the bread but DON'T bake them. When you want to eat them, take out of freezer and put on cookie sheet for 10-13 minutes.

YUM!

P.S. I think the word 'tubes' should go on Turtle's word list.

Just wanted to tell you that I was talking about these with someone from work. She usually toastes them as you do, but if she is going to a party where they might be out for awhile, she'll just put the mixture in a crockpot and not bother with the bread getting toasty. I thought that might work good for certain occasions.

Either way...yummy.
